Only one example was built of the Clipper two-seat touring monoplane, first flown in December 1932. After participating in the 1933 King's Cup Race it became a hack aircraft at Saunders-Roe, which took over Spartan. It was destroyed in air raid on Cowes in 1942. It is seen here at Hendon at the 1933 RAF Display, as proven by the Vickers 210 Vespa VII, K3588, wearing show number 9. That aircraft, although built in 1925, had set a world altitude record of 43,976 ft in September 1932, powered by a supercharged Bristol Pegasus engine.

The Curtiss OC-2 was originally manufactured as the Curtiss F8C-3 Falcon. But when they were delivered to the U.S. Marine Corps, they were redesignated as OC-2. This image of A-7968 showing the U S Marines badge is probably taken at Naval Air Station in San Diego between 1929-1931. Scanned from an original reproduced photograph from my collection, date, and photographer unknown.

LWD Żak - a plane for aeroclubs was developed in the Aviation Experimental Workshops (LWD), in a team led by Eng. Tadeusz Sołtyk in 1946, , as one of the first Polish post-war aircraft. Two prototypes, Żak-1 and Żak-2, were flown in 1947. After a positive evaluation of the first prototype, the Ministry of Communications ordered a series of 10 aircraft. They were equipped with a Czech-made Walter Mikron engine and produced until the end of 1948 under the name LWD Żak-3. One of these aircraft with the registration number SP-AAX was donated in 1963 to the Aviation Museum in Krakow.

A regimented squadron by 1914 standards, but the Dorand Do1 seems to have served in very small numbers. Designed as a reconnaissance bomber with armour plates weighing 90 kg around the cockpits, the type was badly underpowered but saw some action early in the Great War. Curtiss HA-1 was designed by Captain B L Smith of the US Marine Corps as a two-seat patrol fighter floatplane and built by the Curtiss Engineering Corporation. A-4110 is seen here probably at the Rockaway Naval Air Station in December 1918, it was eventually written off after it caught fire in the air, the pilot (Roland Rohlfs) managing to land safely. The fuselage was wood with a fabric covering it was powered by a Liberty 12 engine. Scanned from an original reproduced photograph from my collection date, and photographer unknown.

Aircraft built to break world altitude record. After climbing free of other traffic, the pilot would lower himself into a pressurized compartment. Initially only capable of reaching 5000 m, F-AKFK was rebuilt in 1935 as the parasol wing F.1001. It crashed on 5 August 1935 after a window broke at altitude and pilot Marcel Cognot died. The SS.3 was a two-seat version of the SS.2 canard aircraft, designed by Sergio Stefanutti and built by Stabilimento Costruzioni Aeronautiche in Guidonia. It first flew on 2 October 1937, days before this static display in Milan. Powered by a 40-hp Keller engine, the SS.3 was reportedly flown extensively and made a cross-country flight between Rome and Milan. A canard fighter, the SAI-Ambrosini SS.4, followed but crashed on its second flight. I-LUCE is a Savoia-Marchetti SM.83. Photo from: Fondazione Fiera Milano

I believe this to be F-AIZT, but I may be wrong. Registered on 6th June 1929 this aircraft saw service with Air Union from October 1929 and then Air Orient from Mar 1932. Probably photographed in 1929 (but could be later) in Villacoublay where it was originally based. Scanned from an original photograph from my collection, photographer unknown.
