LWD Żak - a plane for aeroclubs was developed in the Aviation Experimental Workshops (LWD), in a team led by Eng. Tadeusz Sołtyk in 1946, , as one of the first Polish post-war aircraft. Two prototypes, Żak-1 and Żak-2, were flown in 1947. After a positive evaluation of the first prototype, the Ministry of Communications ordered a series of 10 aircraft. They were equipped with a Czech-made Walter Mikron engine and produced until the end of 1948 under the name LWD Żak-3. One of these aircraft with the registration number SP-AAX was donated in 1963 to the Aviation Museum in Krakow.
