Curtiss HA-1 was designed by Captain B L Smith of the US Marine Corps as a two-seat patrol fighter floatplane and built by the Curtiss Engineering Corporation. A-4110 is seen here probably at the Rockaway Naval Air Station in December 1918, it was eventually written off after it caught fire in the air, the pilot (Roland Rohlfs) managing to land safely. The fuselage was wood with a fabric covering it was powered by a Liberty 12 engine. Scanned from an original reproduced photograph from my collection date, and photographer unknown.
