Only one Monocoach H was built but it acquired many names. It was sometimes the Twin Monocoach and also the Monocoupe H Monocoach, Zenith and Zephyr, the last of which applied to the Menasco-powered version in the photo . The name used here is the manufacturer and model in the US civil register. Lambert was acquired by Monocoupe and it continued to promote the aircraft. Jane's called it a Monocoupe but no aircraft were built by that company. Monocoupe was the registered owner when N15433 was cancelled in 1948. Photo by: Rudy Arnold / Smithsonian Institution

Dutchman Frits Koolhoven led production of the Royal Aircraft Factory BE.2 at Armstrong Whitworth and designed the FK.3 as an improved aircraft that would be easier to build. 500 production FK.3s were built by AW and by Hewlett & Blondeau at Luton. They mostly served as training aircraft although the type was used operationally by No 47 Sqn which was based in Thessaloniki to fight on the Macedonian Front.

This aircraft was involved in a midair collision in May 1935 over Texas. The pilot was John C Gordon who survived the collision and rose to the rank of brigadier-general. The accident does not get a mention in his official USAF bio. So it is probable the aircraft also landed safely. The data under the cockpit seems to confirm this is 33-279 as claimed by the Smithsonian but the print is very small. Photo by: Rudy Arnold / Smithsonian Institution

The Breguet 27 and Br 33 observation types had an unaerodynamic thin tailboom to ensure a good rear view for the observer/gunner. Unlike the Br 27, the Br 33 was not built in series but, although not intended as long-range aircraft, both Br 330 prototypes made flights to Asia. Paul Codos and Henri Robida flew F-AKEZ from Paris to Hanoi in seven days, and back in just three days. F-AKFM, redesignated as a Br 27S, was taken on a 35,000 km round trip by Maryse Hilsz. The Rocket 185 was developed from the Rocket 125. The aim was to produce a high-performance aircraft for $5000. Only 19 were built with its limited seating - it was essentially a two-seater - seen as an impediment. The design was taken over by Rocket Aircraft but no further aircraft were built. The fate of NX41662 is not known. Photo by: Hans Groenhoff / Smithsonian Institution
