First flown from Lock Haven in March 1943 the PT-1 was the first low wing monoplane built by Piper and was designed for use as a trainer for the USAAC. The ending of the Second World War meant that no orders were forthcoming and the design never got beyond the prototype stage. Displayed at the EAA museum for several years before moving to the Piper Aviation Museum at Lock Haven where it remains on display at time of upload.

Piper developed this trainer for the USAAC but was unable to secure an order. Remarkably this one-off aircraft has survived and is with the Piper Aviation Museum at Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. Photo by: Hans Groenhoff / Smithsonian Institution
