This aircraft was involved in a midair collision in May 1935 over Texas. The pilot was John C Gordon who survived the collision and rose to the rank of brigadier-general. The accident does not get a mention in his official USAF bio. So it is probable the aircraft also landed safely. The data under the cockpit seems to confirm this is 33-279 as claimed by the Smithsonian but the print is very small. Photo by: Rudy Arnold / Smithsonian Institution
