Withdrawn from service by the RAF in the 80's, six English Electric Lightning's were purchased by a wealthy tax exile, from Binbrook squadrons Nos 5 and 11, all F-6s & T5's. They were flown into Cranfield by their pilots and regularly ground maintained by RAF personnel for some time. The poor! man's dream to fly them was thwarted by either the refusal of the CAA to issue the necessary licence, or the high maintenance costs, and the aircraft were eventually sold on. (Photo 6 of 8)

This was the prototype T400 Skyfarmer and was converted from an incomplete T300 model. It flew with the registration VH-TRX. This was Transavia's trade plate registration, not a formal registration, and could be transferred from aircraft to aircraft for test fights and demonstrations. As VH-TRX it performed in the Bicentennial Air Show at Richmond air force base in October 1988. In January 1989 it was finally entered in the register as VH-TZZ and in 1990 sold to Hazair in Albury, New South Wales. -TZZ was current in 2018 but in storage after being damaged.

A rare type in airline use, and even more so in stretched G-1C form, with only five so modified by Gulfstream American Corp around 1980 with up to 38 seats. This one was operated by Chaparral Airlines for American Eagle from mid-1985 till late 1990. Into store at Willow Run and broken up at Bates City, MO
