Bell Aircraft X-1A Seen at the National Aviation Show in Dayton, Ohio in September, 1954. It was in this aircraft on December 12, 1953 that Major Chuck Yeager set a new speed record of Mach 2.44, 1,650 mph, at 75.000 feet. The aircraft subsequently tumbled out of control due to inertia coupling, and fell 51,000 feet before Major Yeager was able to regain control and land safely. T X-1A was lost on August 8, 1955, when an in-flight explosion occurred just prior to being launched from a B-29, and the aircraft was jettisoned in the Muroc desert.

This unit was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Sicily.

Later converted to L-23D-DH and re-serialed 57-6064. Seen at the National Air Show in Dayton, Ohio during September, 1954.

The Vampire Trainer was built by Fairey Aviation and is shown outside their flight shed shortly after its first flight on 15 September 1954. The assembly hangar, still camouflaged, at the right, was built to a standard Ministry of Aircraft Production specification in late 1939, and is now (2017) the oldest remaining hangar at the airport.

Viking 1B leased by Arabian Desert Airlines in 1954/55 from Eagle Aviation, retaining part of the latter's colour scheme.

Newly assembled Gannet AS.1 being weighed in Fairey Aviation's hangar at Ringway shortly before its first flight on 7 September 1954. This was the first of 102 Gannets to be built at their Stockport factory and assembled and test flown from Ringway.
