Built in 1947, this Safir was registered as SE-BNL in 1948. It became the Saab 91B prototype when fitted with a Lycoming O-435 engine. Wikipedia suggests it first flew as such on 18 January 1949. Reg changed to SE-BNZ on 11 April 1949. Photo assumed taken that spring as the aircraft had a landing accident on 9 June 1949 at ESSL, and was changed to SE-BNL again as a Gipsy-powered 91A on 8 May 1950. To SE-BNZ again in 1951, still as an 91A. To SE-BNL for the third time in 1957. Gipsy engine replaced by a Lycoming O-360 in 1966. To LN-AAS in 2003. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

This former Luftwaffe Ar 196 was interned in Sweden in 1943. When auctioned in 1945 it was bought by Maj John Turner of MI6, who ran observation posts in the Swedish mountains to look into German-occupied Norway. After war's end Turner flew his plane to Norway without permission - see other photo of this c/n.

Two of the earliest S-51s were acquired by the French navy in 1951 and 1952, receiving serials AR.1 (c/n 5102) and AR.2 (c/n 5106). AR.1 was damaged in Djibouti on 7 September 1951 while presumably on its way to Indochina with the aircraft carrier Arromanches. AR.2 did make it to Indochina later. Both helicopters withdrawn from use at Saint-Raphaël, France in March 1955.

Blenheim I K7072 was converted to the Blenheim IV prototype with a longer nose and first flown as such on 24 September 1937. This photo is said to be from 1939 and we think it may have been taken in Canada where K7072 was sent as a pattern aircraft for the Canadian-built Bolingbroke. The Blenheim IV had been named Bolingbroke initially in Britain. Photo from: Life
