Then to No 1316 (Dutch) Communications Flight in England as BX238. To RNLAF as T-2; note 'T238' on tailfin. Withdrawn from use in 1951 and sold to Scandinavia. Later acquired for Soesterberg museum. On the way back from San Francisco to Jackson, Mississippi, on a navigation trip, some Dutch trainee B-25 crews landed here for weather reasons. Registered L2-27 between October 24, 1941 and January 17, 1945. Shipped from the Dutch Indies to the UK for Prince Bernhard, arriving at Liverpool on August 6, 1942. To the 1316 (Allied) Flight, mostly flown by Prince Bernhard. Transferred to the Dutch Government again on January 17, 1945 with fake serial EX735. Late 1945, the aircraft moved from Hendon to Valkenburg, where the 1 TransVA was founded. The Lockheeds carried the (paper) serials AX236, BX238, CX245, DX246 and EX753, but these weren't always applied. T-5 eventually crashed. Photo from W. Muntinga

The Netherlands East Indies air force was the main military user of the small Lockheed 12 Electra Junior, acquiring 16 L-212 crew trainers and 20 L-12 transports. Eleven of the latter were delivered to the Royal Netherlands Military Flying School at Jackson, Mississippi following the Japanese invasion in the NEI. After the closure of the school, they were sent to the West Indies, Australia and England, and some served in the East Indies and Holland after the war. Restored cockpit with mostly original instruments. The restoration of the entire aircraft is due to be completed in 2014 when the new Defence Museum is to be opened at the former air base of Soesterberg.
