In November 1983 40 Sqd SAAF celebrated a 40 year reunion with a flypast of three types that had served the squadron well: The Spitfire from WW2 and the early post-war years, the Harvard from its Active Citizen Force years from 1953 to 1982 when the squadron started operating the Impalas. 40 Sqd was disbanded on 29 April 1983. Delivered to the USAAF as MA793 in 1944. To the South African Air Force as 5601 in 1948. In a children's playground in Pretoria from 1954. Removed in 1967 and restored to airworthy condition. Flew again marked as PT672 in 1975 carrying the SAAF's WW2 roundel where the centre is orange as opposed to the RAF's red as this photo shows. Sold as N930LB in 1986. Later marked as EN398. To Rolls-Royce in 1999 then to the TAM Museum, Sao Carlos, Brazil in 2000. Flew again in 2002. Cancelled from the register in 2013. Photographer unknown
