The Mikoyan Project 1.44 is a multirole fighter technology demonstrator developed by Mikoyan OKB. It was designed for the Soviet Union's MFI (Mnogofunksionalni Frontovoy Istrebitel, "Multifunctional Frontline Fighter") project for 90s, the answer to the US ATF programme which resulted in the F-22 Raptor. On 29 February 2000, the aircraft performed its first flight. The program has since been cancelled, with the sole prototype known residing at Gromov Flight Research Institute, it was later restored/refurbished and was displayed at MAKS 2017.

Russian Air Force Su-35S RF-81745 with bort 57 red is seen here during MAKS 2017 at Zhukovsky. This is the second use of the designation Su-35. The first use was also known as the Su-27M and the first flew in June 1988. It failed to attract orders. In February 2008, the first flight took place of the second Su-35 model, this version incorporates technology from the PAK FA program and has a redesigned cockpit and weapons-control system and features thrust-vectoring engines in place of the canards. Although it was designed for export, the Russian Air Force became the launch customer in 2009.

Built in 1992 and delivered to Aviacor, going to RAF-Avia in April 2001 as YL-RAF. Briefly registered UR-CAE then reverted to the Latvian identity. Ferried to Zhulyany in November 2011 for overhaul for Pecotox Air as ER-AUL but by February 2012 had been painted in the striking orange and blue colours of Cavok Air. Registered UR-CKC from August that year (see my 2017 photo at Southend). W/o 29th July 2017 on take-off from São Tomé when the right engine suffered a bird-strike, aircraft overran runway, went down embankment and broke up. Wreck still there late 2024

Although the design showed promise as an An-12 replacement (and was even considered as a new airlifter by western air forces before the A400 was chosen), the An-70 has failed to gain the necessary support for production. Re-registered UR-EXA in April 2013. Seen at Istres AB in France in September 2015 as Ukraine AF "02 blue". Evacuated to Deblin in Poland after the Russian invasion

The Tu-144LL Supersonic Flying Laboratory dates back to a time when NASA collaborated with the American and Russian aerospace industries on a joint international research programme lasting five years. This aircraft's maiden flight took place on 13 April 1981 in Voronezh, USSR, when it was registered as CCCP-73114. In 1996, the aircraft was modified to serve as a flying laboratory and re-registered as RA-77114 by Tupolev/NASA. The final flight of the Tu-144LL and the last ever flight of a Tu-144 took place on 14 April 1999 at Zhukovsky.
