Another photo shows that this is Second Series BuNo 6729, ordered in 1940 and modified here to PBM-3S (Stripped) standard with reduced defensive armament for anti-submarine patrols. The location seems to be NAS Norfolk, although the reported unit, VPB-206 (VP-206 until October 1944), was based at Key West, Quonset Point and Elizabeth City from April 1944 when it received the PBM-3S. Canada received eight CH-147s (CH-47Cs) from 1974, not counting one that crashed on its delivery flight. The seven survivors were sold to the Netherlands in 1993 and converted to CH-47D standard. Seen here with a British Gazelle, 147008 became D-666 in Dutch service. Canada took over some CH-47Ds from the US Army for duty in Afghanistan as CH-147Ds between 2008 and 2011. Then the first of 15 new CH-147Fs entered service in 2012. Photo from: Imperial War Museums

203 Hikotai operated the F-104J from 1964 until 1983. This aircraft was apparently passed on to Taiwan. The photograph was taken during a Cope North exercise, in South Korea if the information is correct. Gwangju was an American base, spelled Kwang Ju, until 1991. 203 Hikotai operated the F-104J from 1964 until 1983. This aircraft was apparently passed on to Taiwan. The Mi-14 is amphibious like the Sea King. Poland received twelve Mi-14PL anti-submarine warfare and five Mi-14PS rescue helicopters, this one in February 1984. In flight inland near Kutno on 10 May 1987 a map was blown out of the cockpit. Since it was classified, the crew initiated a landing to pick it up, but stalled the helo which was damaged beyond repair. Photo from: National Archives at College Park, Maryland

Supposedly named Lake Nyasa, this Lodestar of BOAC is seen 'taxying at Ankara, Turkey, before taking off on the thrice-weekly service to Cairo.' The Ankara airport would have been Güvercinlik. G-AGIL registered 14 September 1943. BOAC had 19 L-18s, all based in Cairo, at the end of 1945. AGIL reported damaged at Istanbul in a list dated 9 October 1946. No further listings until 'returned to RAF' in November 1947. Photo by: L H Baker / Imperial War Museums

Built in 1934, the last Vega, NC14236 - see other photo of this c/n - was requisitioned, as the sole UC-101, for the US Army Corps of Engineers. It was actually used by the Army's First Motion Picture Unit, flown by the well-known movie stunt pilot, Paul Mantz. It is seen here with the XC-69 Constellation prototype, NX25600.
