The prototype of the Tipsy M, first flown in the late 1930s. Designer Ernest Oscar Tips was associated with Avions Fairey, Fairey's Belgian branch. The prototype was in England in 1940 and was used by Fairey as a hack aircraft for a while. After the war Fairey undertook to produce the type in England as the Primer elementary trainer, even though no drawings or jigs were availabe. Only two production aircraft were completed. Apparently the prototype always wore OO-POM until 1949. Photo by: Charles E Brown

The American Aeronautical Corporation, founded by Enea Bossi, produced the S.56 amphibian for the American market at Port Washington, Long Island, and this looks like the place. NC897W is not listed as an S.56 in the Golden Years Register. Apparently the registration was first used by an Albert TE.1 which was cancelled in September 1930. The Port Washington site was sold to Pan Am in 1933. Bossi also built a stainless steel variant of the S.56, the Budd BB-1 Pioneer.

Henry Segrave was killed in his record speedboat on Lake Windermere on 13 June 1930, just before the first flight of his advanced touring aircraft - see other photo. Although you wouldn't guess it, the Queen Wasp was designed as a pilotless target aircraft, with a single-seat enclosed cockpit for ferry flights. The second AS.30, K8888, was a seaplane variant for the Royal Navy. Only a few production aircraft were built. This looks like Hendon and K8887 is known to have taken part in the RAF Display shortly after its first flight on 11 June 1937, featuring in the programme as New Type number 4.

The Ju 252 had nothing in common with the Ju 52 except its trimotor configuration. It is actually similar to the Curtiss Commando, having been designed to carry 35 passengers in a pressurized cabin. As a military transport it got a rear loading ramp which could tilt the aircraft floor level with the ground. The type's first flight occurred on 5 June 1942 according to German sources. Only 15 Ju 252s were built while the design was reworked as the Ju 352, built largely of non-strategic materials with lesser engines.
