The eight DH60Ts were the prototypes of the DH82 Tiger Moth. CF-APL, ex G-ABNI, was the first to be fitted with the swept wings as seen on the DH82. It was sent to Canada in 1931 in the hope of picking up an RCAF order. The proximity of the swept lower wing to the ground was criticised. DH added dihedral to improve ground clearance and the Tiger Moth was born. However the RCAF ordered the Fleet Fawn instead. The American built Gypsy Moth looks compact with the wings folded.

Seen carrying advertising for a magazine, this Moth had an interesting subsequent career. Bought by the Swedish state, it arrived in Svalbard by ship on 2 July 1928 to take part in the rescue efforts following the crash of the airship Italia. Its commander Umberto Nobile had been rescued by a Swedish Fokker C.V, but that plane crashed during its next landing on the survivors' ice floe. Flying the lighter Moth, Birger Schyberg managed to pick up the C.V's pilot, Lt Einar Lundberg. The Moth then served in the Swedish air force until a crash in 1930. After an extensive rebuild it flew as SE-ADZ until 1950.

995 was taken to Apia on the HMS Dunedin amid unrest from Samoans demanding autonomy from New Zealand. The armed guard was not for show as a clash between the Mau movement and New Zealand police in December 1929 had led to 10 deaths. 995 was destroyed on a separate voyage in 1930 aboard the Dunedin when it dropped while being hoisted. After Albert Park/Hendon aerodrome closed in favour of Parafield, Adelaide aviators called for an aerodrome closer to the city. One suggested site was North West Parklands 2km from the city centre. The Royal Aero Club of South Australia landed VH-UIB there to demonstrate its feasibility. A site at West Beach, 6km from the city, was chosen instead. It became the city's gateway airport and GA, and the aero club, remained at Parafield. The club closed in 1981. Photo from: State Library of South Australia

VH-UQT was seen to spin in to a mangrove swamp while on a training flight from Mascot airport (YSSY). The instructor, Buster Brown, became trapped under the water and died. The student, an RAAF cadet, survived. Brown was the brother-in-law of Edgar Percival, of Percival Aircraft fame. -UQT was technically impressed into the RAAF as A7-119 just before the accident but this may have been a case of the paperwork running well behind events.
