This Moormanair C-47 was chartered to fly Ajax football supporters back to the Netherlands on 3 June 1971. Following a fall in manifold pressure and an oil leak in the starboard engine soon after a night takeoff, the pilot decided to return to Southend Airport for an emergency landing. In order to avoid an undershoot he used 15 degrees of flap for the landing which resulted in a higher than normal airspeed at touchdown. The aircraft touched down about half-way along the runway in use, overran the paved area and collided with an earth bank. Seen here on the dump 11 months later.

Awaiting delivery to Invicta on 2nd May 1972. Note the tail titling "Rolls Royce VC9". This had read "Roll Royce V952 Prop Jet" while with its previous operator, Thor Cargo, and is one of the few references to the post-war civil design designations used by Vickers with the Vanguard being the "Vickers Commercial 9". The Viking having been the VC1 and the system more commonly known for the VC10. To EAS as F-BXOH in November 1975 and used for spares at Perpignan.

In the HAM compound prior to the official opening 27th May 1972. Unusual shot with the wings folded and one of the last in these marks as by 14th May it was repainted as "XE364". The museum closed in May 1983 and the contents auctioned, XE489 fetching £6500. Bacame G-JETH. The wing spar attachments were found to be cut through so FB.3 WM983 was acquired and became G-JETH instead. XE489 with the wings of WM983 (in themselves from WV909!) was sold in the Netherlands. The aircraft marked as "XE489" at Charlwood is G-JETH with the fuselage of WM983 and just the wings from the original XE489.
