Built for the USAF as 43-17242 and entered service in September 1945. Flew with the Danish Air Force as N-242 from 1959 until 1978 and as C-GRYY with Millardair in Canada from 1978 -1991, Registered C9-ATS to Interocean Airways in Mozambique in 1991 and re-registered EL-AWX in 1997. Purchased by Phoebus Apollo in Jan 2000 and donated to the SAA museum at Rand in 2006.

KLM acquired six new DC-4 airliners in 1946. Named Rotterdam after delivery, PH-TAR flew the very first Amsterdam - New York service on 21 May. It was also the first KLM aircraft to wear The Flying Dutchman titles. Therefore, though the reg under the wing is tricky to read, this cannot be PH-TAP. Ex N48165, registered to Millardair as C-GQIA 24th May 1976 and after many years of faithful service the aircraft was de-registered 27th June 2006

One of the C-54s acquired by KLM in 1945, and operated as military aircraft for some time. This aircraft was standing together with a DC-4 in full KLM colours which is almost certainly PH-TAR, not yet named. NL-313 was delivered to KLM at the end of 1945 and was registered in the Dutch Civilian Register on 8 January 1946 as PH-TAO but not painted on. NL-313 flew Amsterdam-New York on 27/29 March 1946. It then returned to Amsterdam. Another flight on 13/14 April 1946 continued on to Santa Monica. It then went to Glenn L. Martin, Baltimore, for conversion to seat 42 passengers. Registered from March 1958 to 1960. It then flew with a multitude of operators in various countries until it met its fate as N8060C on 19 November 1979. While carrying 15000 lbs of marijuana, it struck trees and crashed in flames attempting to land on a grass strip at McCormick/SC.

The aircraft was painted in this special scheme to celebrate 1976 being the Bicentennial year of the British colonies issuing their Declaration of Independence from Britain. The next year the tanker number was changed to '16' with a simple paint modification.

This Skymaster was given to general de Gaulle by president Truman in 1945. Crashed Mt Kokoreta, New Caledonia, 21 January 1982.

Parked in front of the old LTU hangar, but was not supposed to join the LTU fleet, although the old Greenlandair c/s shows some similarities
