Former USCG 1708 (still carried on the nose), one of 7 redundant HC-130Hs that were assigned to the US Forest Service in 2013 to be converted to air tankers. Instead of installing retardant tanks, the USFS only used a slip-in Modular Airborne FireFighting System (MAFFS) retardant system. In August 2018 the USFS lost interest in using the Hercules as airtanker, and all seven aircraft were transferred to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). Tanker 116 is seen here at Sacramento Airport, still in full USFS livery.

This is a replica of the very first rocket-engined aircraft in the world. The original Ente was built as a glider and made its first flight in Jun-1927. It was converted as the Raketen-Ente and as such flew on 11-Jun-1928, first with two 12 kg rockets and in the end with two 20 kg ones. The rockets were ignited after a bungee launch. It then flew 1400m in one minute. On a later flight the same day the aircraft caught fire but a safe landing could hastily be made. In Oct-1928 it was exposed at the ILA Berlin. The non-airworthy replica was built by the Deutsches Segelflugmuseum.

Octave Chanute in the USA was quite successful with his 1896 glider. In 1904 a slightly different version was built for the Saint Louis Exposition where it was flown daily from Oct. 7 to 25. After that it was shipped to France where it is now in the Musée de l'Air in Paris. The one shown here is a replica built by Carsten Brinkmeier, finished in Jun-2006. A few flight attempts were made, but for safety reasons no full flight was made. In Oct-2006 it was handed over to the Deutsches Segelflugmuseum at Wasserkuppe.

Former R Neth AF Harvard B-165 was used as an instructional airframe at first by the Anthony Fokker School in the Hague, and later by its successor the NLC in Hoofddorp. For some reason the Harvard was painted as a US Navy machine with code '50' The trainer was moved to Gilze Rijen AB on 20 March 2013. There, the Koninklijke Luchtmacht Historische Vlucht plans to return it to airworthy condition sometime in the future

We found this One-Eleven in a field to the West of Bucharest visible from the ring road. It had no markings. I think it is the uncompleted c/n 410 which was the only short fuselage one built in Romania. It is suggested that it was allocated YR-BRJ but it was probably never painted on it or registered as such.

The ESG-29 is a single-seat primary training glider from 1929 that flew in many countries. Large numbers have been built, also by gliding clubs. It had the nickname "Schädelspalter" (skullsplitter) because of the strut in front of the pilot, but no such occurrences have been reported. The one seen here is an airworthy replica built by Klaus Heyn and handed over to the Deutsches Segelflugmuseum at Wasserkuppe in 1988.

The Varivol II has a variable span wing that could be extended in flight for a lower speed on landing. The aircraft was intended to be raced in the Coupe Deutsch de la Meurthe. It was built during WWII and partly destroyed at the Liberation. However, in 1946 it was succesfully tested in the Chalais-Meudon wind tunnel. But it never flew and never had a registration. Next it was forgotten in the back of a barn, until found in Jul-2000 and brought to the Musée Régional de l'Air at Angers, from 2013 renamed Espace Air Passion.

This Il-14 was TOC by the Polish AF as '005', subsequently '0833', in October 1956. It was retired in December 1987 and then ferried to Speyer in early 1988. It was flown to Sinsheim underneath a GAF CH-53G and is on display in these fake Bulgarian Air Transport markings and without registration.
