Built by Geoff Wikner. Had to use an 80hp Anzani when he could not obtain the intended 40hp engine leading to official concern the airframe was overstressed. First flight January 25, 1931. Wikner was forced to sell the aircraft, which then had its CoA withdrawn in 1932. The Wicko was followed by the Lion and then the Wizard. Wikner moved to the UK where he designed and built 13 Foster-Wikner Wicko monoplanes - same name, different design. A replica of the original Wicko is displayed at Queensland Air Museum. KNILM's shiny new PK-AFM on a regular service from Batavia (Jakarta) to Sydney. It was one of the KNILM aircraft to escape to Australia following the Japanese invasion of the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) in 1942. -AFM crashed near Katherine, Northern Territory, on March 26, 1942 when the pilots became disorientated on a flight from Brisbane to Batchelor. Crew and passengers survived but not the greyhounds being carried as cargo. They became dinner during the four-day wait for rescue. Photo from: State Library of Queensland

The US fiscal year-based serial system started in FY 1922. The AS prefix stood for Air Service. The Eberhart Steel Products Company from Buffalo, NY built about 50 SE.5s for the USAAS using British-made parts. Interestingly this airframe, as NC4488, was used in the filming of the war movie Hell's Angels and it survived to become G-BLXT in the UK. Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum
