Delievered new to American Airlines in 1970. After a short time for Avianca (1986) sold to United in September, 1987. Left the fleet in November, 1998

This scruffy looking aircraft belonged to Cargolux and was regularly leased out, hence its somewhat less attractive appearance. It was ex American Airlines and National Airlines N9666. In October 1987 it went to United Airlines as N156UA. I photographed as such at Frankfurt in July 1993 looking much healthier than in this picture.

Ex American Airlines, this aircraft operated with National from Jun 84 to Nov 85.

"Highlander" was the low-cost Transatlantic carrier's only aircraft. It operated for ~6 months through the second half of 1987 before being repossessed by its owners, and the airline closed down.

Retired in March 2000.

This aircraft, a few years later, operated the final ever United 747-100 service. The shot is interesting not only for the rather rare airline, but also for the array of classic British airliners in the background; 1-11, 748 and Merchantman.

Broken up in March 2000 at Kemble

United acquired the then 18-year-old N153UA in 1988. It operated it until it was retired at Greenwood, Mississippi and scrapped in 2000.

This Luxuryliner was delivered to American Airlines October 8, 1970. The aircraft was a movie star when it appeared in the film Airport 77. Leased to Braniff Airlines for one month (October to November) in 1978 to start their new Hawaii service. Finally sold to Citicorp Leasing in May 1984, it would see service with National, Air Afrique, Iran Air, Cargolux and then bought by United Airlines in January 1988. The classic jumbo was retired on September 1999 and stored at Las Vegas, NV. Ferried to Greenwood, MS early in 200, the classic 747 was parted out over the next two years, then scrapped.
