P7540 crashed into Loch Doon on 25 October 1941 killing the pilot, and the wreckage was eventually found in 1982. Around 90% of the aircraft was recovered, and the fuselage was restored by the Aircraft Restoration Group in Yorkshire. Gateguard UK fabricated replica wings and engine cowlings to complete the restoration for Dumfries & Galloway Aviation Museum.

Gate Guardian at St. George's Chapel (RAF Chapel of Remembrance), RAF Biggin Hill. Replaced with a FSM in 1989 and placed in store for the RAF Museum, last reported at Stafford in 2022 and identified for onward loan.

Sunshine on the flight line at Duxford Autumn Airshow 2013. This LF Mk. IXe was built in 1944. From 1 May - 31 Dec the aircraft was flown F/O J. Houlton, DFC of No. 485 (NZ) Sqn as his personal aircraft coded OU-V, the last letter for Vicky, his wife. It was flown from 1-5 Jan 1945 by No. 341 (French) Sqn, going to No. 308 (Polish) Sqn from 22-24 Jan, then to No. 349 (Belgian) Sqn, back and forth between the latter two units before a stint with No. 345 (Fighting French) Sqn, finishing with 332 (Norwegian) Sqn. Converted to a trainer, Nick Grace restored it with a streamlined Grace canopy.

The fuselage of Bill Francis' Spitfire on loan to the HAM and recently arrived at the time of the photo. Bill purchased the aeroplane from Pinewood Studios in 1968 with a view to restoration. It was used for cockpit shots in "Reach for the Sky" and for spares at Henlow for "Battle of Britain". Bill moved it to the garden of his bungalow in Hampton Gardens, Southend, later loaning it to the HAM after partial restoration. It moved with Bill to Southam in 1977. In 1982 it was sold to Stephen Gray, becoming G-CDAN. Subsequently restored to flight as ZK-XVI, VH-XVI. Current in 2022 marked as TB863.

Constructed as Spitfire LF.IXc. Ex PV202 with the RAF and served with several units after WWII. Spitfire Tr.IXc. in 1950 and to the Irish Air Corps in June 1951 as 161. Withdrawn from use in December 1960. Became an instructional frame at Baldonnel between 1960 - 1968. Dismantled and stored with the Strathallan Collection between 1970 - 1979. In August 1979 G-BHBG was reserver but not taken up. Became G-TRIX in July 1980. Crashed at Goodwood in April 2004. Restored between 2003 - 2005 and became G-CCCA. throughout the years it has flown in various liveries and markings.

Really BL614. Allocated maintenance serial 4353M in December 1943. Gate guard at RAF Credenhill, Hereford 1955-1967 marked as "AB871". Used for taxying scenes in the 1968 'Battle of Britain' film. Placed into storage at RAF Wattisham after filming as seen in this photo. Later moved to Colerne, St Athan, Manchester Museum of Space and Industry. Restored for static display between 1995-1997 by the Medway Aircraft Preservation Society. To RAFM Hendon in October 1997. Current in 2022.

Florennes AB was initially constructed by the Germans as part of a defensive line of night fighter airfields to counter RAF night bomber raids. After WWII it was taken over by the Belgian AF and the first type based there was Spitfires. The very interesting, informative and friendly Musée Spitfire charts and preserves the history of the base.
