Photograph issued by the Beech Aircraft Corp with serial number BL6153D. It is dated April, 1946 with aircraft customer identified as Socony Vacuum Oil Co. This company was formed in 1931 when Socony (Standard Oil Company of NY) merged with Vacuum Oil Company. The flying horse logo dates back to 1934 and was retained through the name change to Mobil. This aircraft remained on the FAA register until cancelled in 1970 as N2636X. The other two aircraft are NC2633 (c/n A-167) registered as CF-KLI in 1958; cancelled in 1969 after landing gear collapse and NC2635 (c/n A-169) last known stripped for parts, Owassa/OK 1997.

Tragically, on 22nd December 1979, following a night take-off from Orlando-Herndon Airport in adverse weather conditions, the pilot lost control of the aircraft and it crashed killing all 4 persons on board.

At Duxford with Canadian marks taped over. Later to G-BKGM and has worn a number of colour schemes over the years.

The plane was waiting for a good moment to cross the pond (towards Europe, the Netherlands, where it arrived May 10th)

This classic was based at Weston for several years. It was later sold in the Czech Republic, becoming OK-BSC in 2016. Kodachrome slide scan.

Former RCAF and British Columbia government Beech 18 was with Norther Thunderbird Air 1980 - 96. It was sold in the USA as N62936 where it is still current at the time of uploading.

Manufactured in 1946, this Beech 18 was used by Connellan Airways from 1960 to 1966. The aircraft was acquired from Trans Island Airways in New Zealand, who had in turn acquired it from the U.S.A. Three Beech 18's were used by the Airline in the 1960's until replaced by the Beech Twins of the 1970's. After being withdrawn from use in 1966, the aircraft languished in Alice Springs until moved to Mildura for display by the Warbirds Museum. In 1984,it became part of the collection.
