Of Gibbes' three Ju52/3ms, VH-BUW was the only one with military service. It had been the personal aircraft of Field Marshall Albert Kesselring. It was flown to Sweden in April 1945 without the general. BUW arrived in Papua New Guinea on February 9, 1952. Crashed at Wau on March 21. With great difficulty it was transported by road back to Goroka and rebuilt. The work was completed in January 1959 with the new registration VH-GSW. Retired in 1960 and scrapped.
