Rare shot of the last seconds of the last flight by this particular Beverley, arriving on delivery to the Historic Aircraft Museum. Previously used by A&AEE for ULLA heavy drop trials. Sadly rusted away after museum failed and scrapped 4.89. Cockpit now at Newark. ATC quote from early Bev flight in French airspace: "We have contact, you appear to be followed by two objects" - "That's ok, it's our fins"

"Hello there!" Airside safety standards were not quite what they are now in those days. The A&AEE Valetta taxies in as crew ferry for Beverley XB261 which had just arrived for the Historic Aircraft Museum. Del. 3.5.61, s.o.c. 10.4.72 to Gatow fire dump and survived into the late 70s. Moormanair DC-3 PH-MOA visible on dump behind - engine failure on take-off and crash-landing after turning back four months earlier carrying Ajax football fans

Taken on charge in 7.52 and seen in store with 5MU after service with 5 FTS at RAF Oakington. Interestingly this machine had been used along with WL679 at Farnborough in the early 1960s on 'Airborne Rafter' trials in which MI5 attempted to track the radios of KGB agents in Britain using technology similar to TV detectors. Pictured whilst serving the Lightning Training Flight, based at RAF Binbrook, this Lightning had earlier seen service with 111 and 5 Sqns. Later performed as 11 Sqn's display aircraft and was withdrawn in 1.87 with 3212 hours after a period back at the LTF, being scrapped next year. Also see my 1974 flying shot back in the days when she was still in the classic natural metal finish with 111 Sqn
