Built as a Douglas A-26B (s/n 44-34119), this aircraft was rebuilt in 1964 as an On Mark B-26K Counter Invader with a new s/n 64-17651. It flew with 609 SOS/56 SOW from Nakhon Phanom in Thailand until the 609th was disbanded in November 1969. The aircraft was sent to MASDC where it remained until it was donated to South Korea as an exhibit in 1973.

In 1972, Captain Steve Ritchie shot down 5 Mig 21s to become the only USAF pilot ace of the Vietnam War. This was one of two F-4Es (68-0531 the other), specially painted in Vietnam era markings, at the USAF 50th anniversary Airshow at Nellis AFB in April 1997. Please note the five red stars on the intake, representing the 5 air to air kills by Steve Ritchie.

The rear aircraft is 51-1828, the YRF-84F Thunderflash prototype, first flown in February 1952. As you can see, the second YF-84F Thunderstreak, 51-1345, also had side intakes. The rear aircraft is 51-1828, the YRF-84F Thunderflash prototype, first flown in February 1952. As you can see, the second YF-84F Thunderstreak, 51-1345, also had side intakes. These gave some loss of thrust and were not adopted on the basic F-84F. Seen flying near Edwards AFB, both aircraft still have the old canopy of the Thunderjet. Photo from: US Air Force
