Navy equivalent of C-119F

Later converted to C-123K and loaned to the South Vietnam AF, then returned to USAF. I don't have a shot of the NACA B-29 45-21800 in the background, but sure wish I did. It was used as the mothership for the Bell X-1A/B trials.

I have been unable to identify this helicopter as it bears no marking I can discern. Any help would be most appreciated, by both myself and this website.

When this photo was taken at the National Air Show in Philadelphia in Septermber 1955, I was in flight training at Keesler AFB, MS to become an ECM Operator in SAC... on the RB-36H! It's possible that I later flew on this very aircraft as it was once in our squadron at Ellsworth AFB, SD. In 1957 it was put on display at Chanute AFB, IL and in 1991 was transported in pieces by rail to the Castle Air Museum, CA. Once restored it placed on display there, where it remains today. Of the 4 surviving B-36s, this is the only RB model.

The second of two prototypes, this Piasecki YH-16A Transporter broke apart in mid-air on 5 January 1956, when the rear rotor shaft failed, allowing the blades to desynchronize and wobble into the plane of those of the forward rotor. Although the cause of the failure was determined not to be a design defect the program was scrapped.

This sole example flew cargo for the USAF from 1950 to 1957 before being retired. Seen on display at the National Air Show in Philadelphia. The SAAMA logo on the fin refers to San Antonio Air Materiel Area. Comparing this view to the one taken 1 year earlier shows more weathering, stripes at the tip of the tail and no red on the prop spinners.

Now restored and on display at the USS Intrepid Museum in New York, NY.

Stroukoff fitted this aircraft with their "Pantobase" landing gear system, which permitted landing on any reasonably flat surface: land, water or snow. Trials were successful and the YC-123E was further developed into the YC-134.
This particular aircraft is widely reported as ex Fairchild-built C-123B 54-554 (c/n 20003), but that seems unlikely because it still has the original Chase tail with rounded tip and no dorsal fin. It is almost certainly one of the uncompleted Chase-built C-123Bs 52-1628 to 52-1631, or the rebuilt YC-123D 53-8068.
