The former F-BBDI of Air France became 5R-MAU with Air Madagascar in 11.65 then 5T-RIF with Air Mauritanie in 12.76. Prepared at Southend for a new career with Arax Airlines of Nigreria in 1.79, she is seen here after an emergency crash landing with wheels up after a test flight. Impounded and stored at Lagos, she was later scrapped there

With its camouflage paint peeling away from the original white anti-flash finish, this old Vulcan sits forlornly on the Manston fire school dump. Delivered in 5.58 as a Mk1 to 617 Sqdn at Scampton. On receiving Blue Steel air-launched missiles in 1961, the Dam Busters reformed as 50 Sqdn on the other side of Lincoln at Waddington and XH483 was converted to a B.1A. Flew to Manston 9.69 and was all gone by 1977

This Brit was seized by HM Customs a few months after this shot (I remember seeing a photo of it carrying their titles and logo in a doctored b&w!). Ex XL660 and operated alongside G-BDLZ (my shot of 'LZ shows the two of them) until seizure 8.79; became A6-HMS with Gaylan in 4.80 then to 9Q-CGP of Katale A/T 11.82 and later b/u in Zaire. The ex Air Mauritanie DC-4 behind, 5N-ARC, had recently made a wheels-up landing during a test flight out of SEN for Arax Airlines

If you booked a holiday in Gambia back then, you stood a good chance of flying on this, although few would have realised it was the last 100 Srs 707 in commercial passenger service. Originally AA's N7585A and later went through identity crisis being registered YN-CDE, C5-GOB, HR-AMG, OM-WFA, 9Q-CJT, EL-WAM, 3D-ADK and 9XR-IS! Here are the two Air Faisal Britannias, both with their distinctive ex-RAF cheatlines, although Lima Zulu's has been changed to green. Originally XM490 in 1960, she was bought in 11.75 by this rather shadowy operator, sister-ship G-BEMZ (ex XL660) following in 2.77. Broken up at Luton 9.79

This DC-6 was acquired by Air Atlantique a couple of months before this shot and used for spares. Here luckily still carrying the full colours of Greenlandair with whom it had operated as OY-DRM "Sululik" from 6.72, the titles were soon removed. She was originally Canadian Pacific's CF-CZS from 4.57 and had a earlier UK connection when leased to BUA 1962-64 (G-ARXZ); ended up being broken up at MSE in 4.85
