Delivered to South African Airways, or Suid-Afrikaanse Lugdiens if you will, 18 December 1969 and named after one of South Africa's major cities like the rest of the SAA 707s, East London and Oos-Londen in Afrikaans. To Luxair 5 August 1978 as LX-LGS, then sub-leased to Royal Jordanian as JY-AFQ 12 April 1978 before returning to South African 27 December 1984. To Safair as ZS-LSF March 1985. Leased to Libera World 25 August 1989 as EL-TBA, but it is unclear if taken on charge. To the SAAF as 1421 1 May 1995 serving with 60 Sqd before being retired in 2004 and the nose exhibited at the SAA Museum at Rand. Photographer unknown

In the 1960s and 1970s South African named their 727s and 737s after rivers in the region. ZS-SBL is named after the Ponogola River which runs from KwaZulu Natal joining the Maputo River in Mozambique before shedding into the Indian Ocean.

This DC-9 was delivered to Südflug as D-ACEB in May 1968. After five months it went to Swissair as HB-IFX where it served until 1982 when it went to Texas International as N538TX. After serving with Continental and Eastern, it was sold to Millionair Charter as ZS-OLN in 1999. It stayed with Millionair until retired in 2007. Millionair leased it to a number of operators in that period: Zimbabwe Express, Ghana Airways, Sun-Air, Afrinat, 1Time, and the United Nations.

Safair bought the 727 in November 1995 and it remained on South African register until retired nine years later. In that period it was leased to both Sun Air and Comair as well as operating for the United Nations.

Built for American Airlines as N1991, then to Phoenix Airways in November 1994 before sold to Million Air Charter who leased it to Zimbabwe Express Airlines between December 1995, and June 1996. It was converted to a freighter in July 1996 and leased to Guardian Airfreight the same year and later Express Air Services before going to Transafrik in November 1999 as S9-BOC. Scrapped at Upington, Northern Cape in 2019.
