Originally designated JM135 prior to delivery to the RAAF in July 1943, this combat veteran beaufighter was scrapped for spares after a tail-wheel collapse in Jan. 1944. Currently under restoration with TFC she will eventually be a composite of four ex-Aussie aircraft.

Pictured during some winter down-time in one of the hangars at Duxford. Note the interesting piece of wall art in the background representing a B-17 from the 92nd BG, the oldest in the US Eighth Air Force, based at Podington during WWII. After closure of the base in 1946 the site reverted to agricultural use and the hut that housed this picture became a pig-sty. Other buildings on base were demolished so for this reason the picture survived. It was 'rescued' and brought to Duxford in 1989.

Built in 1956 this airframe was primarliy used for testing throughout her service life. Firstly by de Haviland, then by AAEE Boscombe Down and finally by the RAE. In 1969 she was acquired by the IWM and displayed at the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden before moving to Duxford in 1971.

First time for me to see and photograph an autogiro. Autogiros have rotors instead of wings but unlike helicopters they are not powered so unable to hover. The rotor spins around as the autogiro is driven forward by the propeller and generates lift. Autogiros were used by the RAF to check and/or calibrate radar stations as they were able to fly in very tight circles. Indeed at one point the RAF's Radar Calibration Unit was based at Duxford for some time during WWII. Previously G-ACUU

Built in 1934 she went on to serve with Fleet Air Arm 802 Sqn in the Mediterranean as the C-Flight commander's aircraft, hence the yellow markings. Rediscovered in 1972 on a rubbish dump in Kent, corroded but more or less complete, she was acquired by Aero Vintage leading to this remarkable restoration.

This Flying Flat Iron was built to FAW7 standards and delivered to 25 Sqn. at Waterbeach in 1959, later serving also with 33 and 5 Sqns. After conversion to FAW9 it joined A&AEE at Boscombe Down where work was found on various test programmes, including Concorde, accounting for the unusual red & white scheme. After retirement it was acquired by the IWM in 1974.

This hulk has been relocated to Duxford while the IWM in London undergoes refurbishment. Nothing is really known about this particular airframe except that it was evaluated at the end of WWII by the Allied Technical Air Intelligence Unit, hence, the scribbled initials.

One of the exhibits in temporary storage at Duxford after being transferred from the IWM London whilst refurbishment there takes place. This original BE2c was built in Lincoln (probably) in 1916 and went on to serve with No.50 Home Defence Squadron, RFC based at Dover. She later went on to serve with two Night Training Squadrons and No.51 Sqn. RAF before a bad landing forced retirement and she was acquired by the IWM in 1919.
