slide scan from the NK collection. - Besides a leased example from SAS, Swissair operated seven DC-8-62's between 1967 and 1984; all of them were bought as new airframes from Douglas. Together with its sister ship HB-IDH, the example shown here was sold to the Peruvian Air Force; both airframes were broken up at Lima in 2010 after more than two decades of military service.

Although marked as RR-5 Bureau Number 9205, this is actually 4-AT-E N7861 which never was assigned to the US Navy. It was originally built in 1928 as a 4-AT-B and converted by the factory in 1929 to a 4-AT-E. N7861 spent most of its flying career with Johnson Flying Service, where it was used as an insect spray aircraft as well as under contract with the US Forest Service as a smoke jumper transport. It was donated to the museum in 1973. The US Navy and US Marine Corps had a total of 9 Ford Tri-Motors of various types in their inventory, all ordered between 1927-1931.

Originally delivered as A3D-1 (A-3A) in 1956. Converted to EA-3A in 1966 and assigned to the Pacific Missile Test Center. In 1974 the a/c was flown to NAS Pensacola and retired to the museum and put in the outdoor aircraft display area. It is still at the museum, now on display on the flightline. It is currently painted in VAH-1 markings, which this a/c wore during its assignment to that squadron after having been built in 1956.

The aircraft entered service with the Rijksluchtvaartschool (RLS) in September 1946. In September 1960, the registration was cancelled and the aircraft was sold to a private owner together with PH-UBE and PH-UEI. The aircraft was put on display on the roof of car breaker Knoop in Aduard from 1960 to 1974. From there it went to the garden of a private person in Hornhuizen as a play-object for his children. The aircraft was damaged during a storm at Hornhuizen in February 1979 and then scrapped afterwards. Photo from Harm Reinders
