This Panther in fact is 123612, correctly marked as F9F-2. It was painted to represent 141099 in VF-81 Waldoman markings, which in fact was a F9F-8. VF-81 only very briefly operated the Panther, from February 1953 until April 1954. This aircraft has been guarding the NAS Oceana gate since 1984 and has been repainted several times in a new colourscheme wearing different unit markings and, as indicated, different serial numbers.

This F9F-2 is a Korean War veteran. It was land based in South Korea with VMF-115 & VMF-311. In 1953 it was aboard USS Boxer while assigned to VF-151. Acquired by the museum in 1964, it is currently on display in the entrance lobby and is painted in VF-151 markings as worn in 1953.

Owned by the Cavanaugh Flight Museum, this is the only airworthy F9F Panther. This a/c is a Korean War veteran, having made two combat cruises. 123078 is in the markings of VF-721 as worn aboard the USS Kearsarge during 1952 - 1953. It was assigned to VF-151 aboard USS Boxer for its second cruise later in 1953. Restored to flying condition in 1993 by the museum.

This F9F was delivered to the US Navy during October 1950 and assigned to VF-721 aboard USS Boxer where it then saw action in the skies over Korea. It then served with VF-821, VF-51 and various training units before retirement in 1956 with 1,575 hours. Now on display at the Flying Leathernecks Museum in the colours of a VF-311 aircraft flown by Capt. W.A. Bloomer, who years later would become instrumental in helping to establish the museum.
