Falsely painted in very nice Marines markings as Bu1061, but this S-43 has in fact never seen military service. It was originally delivered in Jan 1937 as NC16934, and it kept that registration (later as N16934) until it hit a floating log on landing on Chignik Bay, AK on 1 Jun 1951 (and not on Tetlin Lake as widely reported). Its hull ruptured, and the aircraft sank. The registration was cancelled on 27 Jun 1951 as destroyed. The wreck was salvaged by Gary Larkins' and Darryl Greenamyer's Institute of Aeronautical Archaeological Research (Air Pirates) in 1981, and trucked to the Marine Corps Air-Ground Museum at MCAS Quantico, VA. It was loaned to the Pima museum in 1985.

This aircraft has been in these white markings for about 30 years (since the first half of the 1990s), and is now in need of a repaint. The serial on the tail has completely faded away on both sides.

Previously painted with a blue trim and fake registration N6000V. Was repainted in its original US Army markings in 2011.
