The first Hunter prototype, flown by Sqn Ldr Neville Duke to set a new World's Absolute Speed Record of 727.6 mph on 7 September 1953. Allocated the RAF maintenance number 7865M at Colerne, and subsequently found its way to Duxford by 1985, via East Dereham and Little Staughton. It was eventually moved to Coventry for spares use for Air Atlantique Classic Flight's Anson G-VROE, and was stored off-site in the Compton Verney area. After Classic Air Force/Classic Flight closed in 2015 it moved to Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre in May 2018 for restoration.
