Following storm damage at Portland in November 1928 while operated by 480 (Coastal Reconnaissance) Flight, the aircraft was purchased and the hull modified for use as a houseboat. By the early 1950s the hull was located, alongside the hull of a Fairey Atlanta, at Bawdsey Ferry near Felixtowe, Suffolk. In 1966 the now disused hull was sold to the RAF Museum for £75 and transported to Henlow before moving to nearby Cardington c1973 for restoration. The beautifully restored fuselage was put on display at Hendon in May 1995 and is the sole survivor of the type.

Following retirement SL574 flew as part of the Historic Aircraft Flight, forerunner to the BBMF, from its formation in 1957. Following a crash in September 1959 the aircraft was relegated to gate guard duties at RAF Bentley Priory where it remained until 1967 when it was moved to Henlow for static use in the Battle of Britain film. After filming finished the aircraft returned to Bentley Priory where it remained until 1986 when it moved to RAF Halton in preparation for sale to the San Diego Aerospace Museum. The aircraft is still displayed with them at time of upload.
