The aircraft, along with two similarly equipped Canadair Challengers were transferred to Nav Canada when Canada's ATC system was privatized in 1996. The mission of this Dash 8 was changed the next year when the National Aerial Surveillance Program was started by the Canadian Coast Guard. That program was taken over by Transport Canada in 2004.
