This North Star served with the RCAF from 8 March 1948 until 27 September 1965. It wears a UN flag here. It carried UN troops to Congo in 1960. The belly radar was supposedly fitted 'briefly' during the late 1950s. As N8022, the aircraft flew in the Caribbean until about 1980, allegedly used in smuggling operations. The Fleet 50 Freighter with its inverted gull lower wing. CF-BJW, one of five examples built, was registered on 6 July 1939 as a seaplane and leased for one month to Dominion Skyways. The company had its base on Osisko Lake at Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, behind the current post office, and it looks like the photo may well have been taken there. Photographed somewhere between CFB Cold Lake and CFB Goose Bay are J-202 and J-642, both F-16As in 312 squadron markings. If you look closely, you might be able to see that the small aerial refuel door is painted in two tone blue. The original door was found unserviceable just before the journey which would include air to air refuelling and had to be fixed. Due to the great co-operation with the USAF Aggressor squadron the small door could be borrowed from one of their serviceable jets. It shows the great friendship between the two nations.
