Delivered on 7 June 1960 and operated until 1979. Scrapped at Houston (KHOU) in 1990 while N59RD with Blue Air. The registration is not visible and we only have the photographer's word, however the aircraft was reportedly leased to BOAC at some point so it may have been here on a training flight or North Atlantic stopover. I don't believe Varig came to the UK in their own right until 1967.

Registered in 1938 and based at Rearsby. Cancelled by the CAA in 1946 (probably went into storage during the war) and resurfaced in 1950 with owner at Pinner, Middlesex. Here it is locally owned and the Aeronca-JAP J99 two-cylinder engine is visible. On 14 March 1971 it was wrecked on take-off from Fairoaks (EGTF) and cancelled in 1972. Attempts were made to repair the aircraft so the registration was restored in 1993, only to be cancelled by the CAA on 22 November 2021.

The aircraft was wrecked at Hall Beach/NU (CYUX) on 1 February 1962 when three engines failed after take-off due loss of oil pressure. It had been left outside for about 90 minutes in -37 deg temperature with 15 mph wind and the oil had started to congeal resulting in blown gaskets and oil coolers etc.

Reportedly converted to SC-47A in 1956 and, in the absence of a service record card, we may assume it was based in Iceland or Greenland on SAR duties judging by the combustion heater exhaust stain on the fuselage. When seen here it was assigned to the 7531st Ammunition Squadron at Welford, Berkshire and used for shipping ordinance to USAF bases in the UK. Last known stored at Davies Monthan in September 1967.
