Written off after a forced landing at Redcliffe in Perth on October 11, 1933. Photo likely towards the beginning of the date range. The word AIRWAYS was not on the nose when it crashed. The unreliability of the engines fitted had seen WAA fit different versions of the Jupiter and different propellers, often on one side only. Photo from: State Library of Western Australia

Immediately after the war the USAAF sent this B-29 to Australia so that Australians could see what the famous aircraft looked like and also donate to a War Bond drive. It was re-named 'Waltzing Matilda' for the tour, which included every major city in Australia, as well as many smaller ones. Photo from: State Library of Western Australia

A52-319 at Perth after its delivery flight to its new home . Owned by Jimmy Woods, it was soon registered VH-WAD. That lasted a few weeks before its provisional CoA was cancelled and it was struck of the register. VH-WAD sat in the open at Perth Airport until 1971. In 1972 it was being shipped to a new US owner when a dispute over payment of shipping costs saw it offloaded in Melbourne. Sat rotting away in the open until 1979 when the Australian War Memorial bought it. Now restored and displayed at the AWM in Canberra. Photo from: State Library of Western Australia

Used to carry tourists to Rottnest Island off the coast of Perth. Flights stopped when Ansons were barred from carrying passengers or flying over water. After a failed attempt to sell VH-WAB to the Dutch air force in Dutch New Guinea, it was donated to a farming friend of Jimmy Woods as a play thing for children. By 1969 it was derelict and by 1974 had been removed to the tip. Photo from: State Library of Western Australia
