After being stripped of parts for the rebuild of 48-610 "Columbine II" in 1990, the aircraft was parked at Ryan Field for many years until finally being scrapped in January 2002. Delivered to the USAF as VC-121B 48-608, it was sold to Christler Flying Service after retirement and converted into a large acreage sprayer.

This aircraft, named Bataan, was the personal aircraft of General Douglas McArthur during the early 1950's. After retirement from the USAF in 1966, it flew with NASA as NASA422 and later N422NA until 1969 when it was flown to the US Army Aviation Museum at Fort Rucker, Alabama. It was purchased by the Planes of Fame Museum in 1994 and completely restored. Acquired by Lewis Air Legends and flown to Chino, CA in January 2016. Lewis plans on putting the aircraft on the airshow circuit after completion of a comprehensive restoration at Chino.

Returned to the Mutual Aid Advisory Group in 1955, the aircraft was integrated back into the USAF. Stored in 1961, it was to become OB-LIT-633, which was not taken up and it became derelict at Tuscon, AZ.
