Built in 1953 by McDonnell Aircraft Corporation in St. Louis, Missouri. This aircraft served in the U.S. Navy at naval stations in Florida and Virginia, and on three aircraft carriers. The Royal Canadian Navy acquired this Banshee in 1957. It served alternately at shore base HMCS Shearwater and the HMCS Bonaventure aircraft carrier. It was also used as part of the Royal Canadian Navy's aerobatic team, the Grey Ghosts. The aircraft was withdrawn from service in 1962.

Sold to Starratt Airways and Transportation Limited of Hudson, Ontario in 1937, it served with the company until 1942, when it was purchased by Canadian Pacific Airlines (CPA). The first engine-powered ornithopter to achieve sustained flight. Built in the late 1990s at the University of Toronto Institute of Aeronautical Studies (UTIAS).
