I'm not really into biz-jets at all, but there are exceptions if they sport airline colours. JetStars were always something special and one in Iraqi colours much more so. Went on to become 7T-VHP then much later (briefly) OD-MKI and ended up derelict at Geneva as HB-JGK

Only about a month old and just pushed back from Heathrow's 'November' stands in this view, the reg was presumably meant to look like 'Quiet'! Re-reg G-MANO in Nov 94 and after use by BA Regional, flew to Bucharest-Bãneasa on 30.4.07 for freighter conversion, following which it went into service with West Air Europe

These bizarre "RAF Air Support Command" marks were applied for a film while 'ZH was in a derelict state at STN. Quite who would have been fooled by the huge roundel on the tail is hard to see; note the serial 'XV196' borrowed from a Herk (which incidentally was still active at the time of the photo). Formerly Flying Tigers' N452T, she was bought by Transmeridian Air Cargo 29 Jan 1972 and known by them as 'Hangar Queen' - a name that should have been heeded as after returning to service she crashed in the sea just after take-off from Kai Tak on 2 Sep 1977.

Perhaps a type that younger viewers won't readily recognise, the Argus was a piston-engined Britannia derivation which bridged the maritime patrol gap between Lancasters/Neptunes and the CP-140 Aurora (Orion). First flown in 1957, 33 were built and the last was retired in 1982. Six airframes survive, but not this one

Some great shots of this machine can be found elsewhere online, but here she is at one stage of her dismemberment. This, the penultimate Britannia built, was delivered originally to Canadian Pacific in 1959. The once-proud ex-Eagle bird was to have become HB-ITF. Glad I talked my dad into diverting there all those years ago...

An attempt to fly from Southend to Chivenor for the NATO Day in Auster G-AMFP took us overhead Lasham. Due to headwinds we never made it to Devon... this dodgy shot was taken with a 400mm hanging out in the slipstream. The 1959-build Comet was reduced to spares by Dan-Air by 3.73, while their Ambassador (G-ALZO) ultimately went on to be superbly restored at Duxford. Soon after this, it became the only survivor of the type in the world with the scrapping of G-ALZP at West Malling

The traffic lights may not be on but it was certainly enough to stop me! This airframe faced a rather uncertain future as it went down the production line in 1958, being earmarked successively for BOAC, Capital and Northeast; ntu by all three. To Air Charter as G-ANCE, then BUA and Lloyd, joining Aer Turas in May 1974. Wfu Dublin 1979 and b/u 1981

During the period of the Iran-Iraq war, we were fortunate at LHR that Saddam's mighty Il-76s were frequent visitors. After being evacuated to Iran during the first Gulf War in 1991, this one was put into service by the Iranian AF in a two-tone grey camo scheme but grounded at Shiraz in the early 2000s

Two Border Security Force aircraft. This shot snatched through the window of my taxiing A330 is not up to normal standards of quality but included out of pure rarity. VT-EHL was ntu by Indian Airlines in 1982 and went to the BSF instead. Older sister-ship here is VT-EAV (cn 542) which did go to Indian A/l first, spending ten years with them from 1972

Looking good in Air UK's colours, before long the Herald would be supplanted by its Fokker rival. This one started as I-TIVU with Itavia, joined BIA in 12.73 and was dbr at Bournemouth 6.84
