Ex-Gulf Aviation and purchased by Channel Airways a few months before this photograph was taken. Did not enter service and seen here among the withdrawn DC-3s and sole DC-4 (G-ARYY) of Channel Airways.

Originally built for Braathens SAFE as LN-SUD in 1952 and first registered in the UK to Manx Airlines in 1957 then Silver City. It later flew with Overseas Air Transport, as here, and Mercury Airlines before export to Sierra Leone as 9L-LAL in 1968. Restored to the UK in April 1975 and exported as ZK-EJM in September 1976. On 9 May 1977 it was damaged beyond repair while landing at Ardmore (NZAR).

Built in 1955 as a Heron 1B. In use with DeHavilland until February 1960. To Leeward Islands Air Transport in February 1960 as VP-LIB. To Jamaica Air Service/Brisith West Indian Airways in August 1965 as 6Y-JED. to Prinair in November 1967 as N553PR. To Caribbean Aircraft Development Corporation in February 1979. Seems to be converted(?) to a Heron 2 in March 1980, again with Prinair. To American Casa in december 1984. To the IRS in August 1985. To Dorado Wings in September 1985. Seized by a US disctrict Court in 1987. To a private owner, later withdrawn from use and stored at San Juan, PR.

In BUIA livery

Built in 1954 and in March 1980 it was exported to St. Lucia Airways as J6-LBC. On 23 October 1980 it was reportedly damaged beyond repair on the ground during a hurricane. Restored to G-ANSZ in August 1981 but it seems unlikely it returned to the U.K. Cancelled by the CAA in September 1986.

Ex CX-AOR, G-APKT, 9L-LAG. On its way to Canada for conversion to ST-27 standard, but was broken up instead.

Altair was the first Australian operator of this ex Danish Heron (OY-DGS).

Delivered to Channel Airways just two months earlier in November 1968 ex-OO-BIA. Broken up at Southend in July 1972 following the demise of Channel Airways in February of that year.

This aircraft is an outdoor exhibit at the Newark Air Museum. It looks in a very sad condition. The last time I saw it it was in service!

Butler Air Transport publicity photo. Arthur Butler made his tiny home town of Tooraweenah a hub for his airline. Traffic from towns in NSW and southern Queensland fed into the airport for DC-3 services to Sydney. Tooraweenah vanished from the world's airline maps with Butler but was for a while a base for gliding over the Warrumbungle mountains seen in the background of the photo.

Delivered to Jersey Airlines in 1955. To Morton Air Services in 1965 and to British United Island Airways in 1968. Withdrawn from use at Gatwick in 1970 and transported to Coventry for use as parts.

In Gulf Aviation livery, however at this date up for sale. It was cancelled to Lichtenstein in April 1968 but instead turned up on the D-R Congo register as TN-ABA. On 11 July 1969 it was on route to Gatwick when Nos. 3 & 4 engines failed and was wrecked during an emergency landing at Ruddervoorde, Belgium.
