Delivered to the Baťa company as OK-CTB in 1937, sold as CF-DTB and then to the RCAF as '7656' between September 1940 and May 1946. Joined the US civil register in July 1946 as N79236 and subsequently flown by several owners. Re registered as N241M in 1963, by 1974 it was flying with a Texas based owner flying as RCAF '7656'. Purchased by its current owner in 2012, after an impressive restoration 'OK-CTB' returned to Europe and is now based at Točná.

A better photo of the Daily Express, taken in England during its transatlantic return flight. Interestingly pilot Dick Merrill preferred Ainsdale Beach near Southport over any British runway for the heavy westbound take-off, as he had done flying NR13770 the previous year. Photo taken by my father Algy Spurr circa Sep / Oct 1942 in WW2. This could be at Beirut, Lebanon. Lockheed Model 10-A Electra "Cloudy Joe" was RAF AX701 (former Aeroput YU-SBB). It was involved in Operation Pike to photograph the Iraq oil fields. The Electra served with 267 Sq in 1941-42, then with 680(PR) Sq in 1943-44 and suffered a main gear collapse on landing at Matariya, Egypt on 25 Aug 1944 during a test flight. It was withdrawn from use and eventually struck off charge on 22 Feb 1945.

Australian polar explorer and pilot Hubert Wilkins took part in the search for the famous Soviet pilot Sigizmund Levanevsky, who disappeared over the Bering Strait in URSS-N209 on 13 August 1937. The search continued while the Alaskan coastal waters froze and to replace his Catalina URSS-L2, Wilkins bought this long-range Electra, formerly NR16059. While the terrain looks barren, the aircraft is still in New York here, but Wilkins covered a vast area in Arctic winter conditions before the search was given up in March 1938. The Electra was then flown to Moscow for evaluation. The registration was reapplied as CCCP-N214 with a H-shaped Cyrillic N. Photo by: Rudy Arnold / Smithsonian Institution

In May 1937 Dick Merrill and Jack Lambie made a fast transatlantic return trip in this long-range L-10E Electra, to get high-quality photographs of King George VI's coronation to the USA as quickly as possible. This photo was taken a few days later. The first owner of this L-10 was Harold Vanderbilt. It later became USSR-N214. Photo by: Rudy Arnold / Smithsonian Institution

About to be hoisted onto a barge 'for shipment, by Erickson and Remmert, to Czechoslovakia, at pier near Floyd Benett Field'- probably near the Coast Guard seaplane ramp. The Bata company's first L-10A Electra, also registered OK-CTA (c/n 1068) was damaged in Chicago on 4 April 1937. To complete his trip, shoe king Jan Bata immediately bought OK-CTB (c/n 1091). It has been assumed that OK-CTA (c/n 1068) was repaired, but it is clear now that Bata received another airframe (c/n 1114). Photo by: Rudy Arnold / Smithsonian Institution
