Photo taken by my father Algy Spurr circa Sep / Oct 1942 in WW2. This could be at Beirut, Lebanon. Lockheed Model 10-A Electra "Cloudy Joe" was RAF AX701 (former Aeroput YU-SBB). It was involved in Operation Pike to photograph the Iraq oil fields. The Electra served with 267 Sq in 1941-42, then with 680(PR) Sq in 1943-44 and suffered a main gear collapse on landing at Matariya, Egypt on 25 Aug 1944 during a test flight. It was withdrawn from use and eventually struck off charge on 22 Feb 1945. This photo is copyright © Brian Spurr, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
