This rescue helicopter was formerly displayed at Travis AFB, CA. The Huskie was notable for its intermeshing wooden rotors and was extensively used in Vietnam for recovery missions, and later for airbase fire-crash duties, known by the callsign "Pedro". The very first Starlifter to be built, making her maiden flight on 17.12.63, the 60th Anniversary of the Wright Brothers first flight. Spent entire career as a test aircraft with AFSC at Wright-Patterson in numerous programs, the last being to test a new tension rope for NASA towing a QF-106 in the air. One of four early C-141A's not converted to C-141B standard, all 270 in the main fleet undergoing the stretch. Joined C-141B 64-0626, parked alongside in 'lizard' camouflage

This exceptional exhibit is the only remaining example of the world's first operational jet-powered bomber. Although some 210 were built in the late stages of WWII, few entered service; those that did proved almost impossible to intercept. Behind is the similarly extraordinary Dornier 335

Impounded after the infamous 2001 attempt to land 271kg of cocaine when Captain Barrett-Jolley taxied to the end of 24 out of sight of the control tower and held while five suitcases were thrown out of the opened door. Unbeknown to the crew, Customs and the Police were in wait. The captain (who claimed the landing was a diversion for repairs on the flight from Jamaica) and co-pilot were sentenced to 20 years but have recently been released from prison

A couple of years before my visit this Viscount was nicely restored to its original Lufthansa livery, but until recently remained unfinished without titles and registration. An email to the museum asking about this didn't bring a response. However, a big improvement on the previous false BAF-style colour scheme. Apparently serious corrosion was found in the lower fuselage because an animal had been living in there!
