First flown in 1930, the Bánhidi Gerle (dove) was a Hungarian sport aircraft of which nine or ten exampes were built, in eight versions! Designer Antal Bánhidi and Tibor Bisits flew the Gerle 13 around the Mediterranean in early 1933. Their route is marked on the tailfin. That summer Bánhidi flew it from Debrecen to Croydon via Northern Europe, then back to Debrecen non-stop. The operator is the flying club of the Budapest technical university, which also built this airframe. A flying replica of the Gerle 13 was built in 1988.

Opened in 1953, BEA's Waterloo Air Terminal was essentially a check-in facility offering bus transport to Northolt or Heathrow, but helicopters had first landed here on the former Festival of Britain grounds in 1952 and BEA Whirlwinds linked Waterloo to Heathrow for ten months from July 1955. Sabena only undertook a single flight from Brussels in July 1954. Flying time from Brussels was no less than two hours and 48 minutes.

The understanding of a travel or business aircraft began to change in the 1930s and the four-seat FK.57 twin was built for Frits de Kok, the general managing director of Royal Dutch Shell. The sole example first flew on 20 June 1938. Three months later it took off for a trip to the Far East, but De Kok and pilot Hein Schmidt Crans turned back in Karachi because of the Munich Crisis. The Dutch city of Terneuzen, on the south bank of the Scheldt estuary, was briefly served by Sabena from 1 October 1955 - one stop a week between Brussels and Rotterdam. The heliport was in nearby Axel. There was one more flight in 1964 at the request of the Dow Chemical company. By this time, Sabena had sold its S-58 fleet but to help carry out the remaining services two airframes were acquired from Chicago Helicopter Airways. N869 became OO-SHP in November 1964.
