Putting aircraft on skis in winter was still commonplace in northern countries in the 1930s, and at Västerås - Hässlö, on Lake Mälaren, an ice runway was apparently preferred over a snowy airfield. Sweden bought eleven Bulldog fighters. The first digit of the serial is a unit code, these aircraft serving mostly with F1 wing at Västerås.
