G-EBYX developed engine trouble on the Koepang-Darwin leg of a flight from the UK and force landed beside the Cape Don lighthouse . The aircraft was wrecked, its engine torn from its mounts. The two crew were evacuated by boat but the Vellore had to be abandoned to the elements. An airstrip was subsequently built to serve the lighthouse, which has been unmanned since 1983.
