A65-123 was attached to No. 86 Transport Wing when the wing was transferred to Canberra in a VIP role. 1954 was the year Queen Elizabeth II visited Australia. Due to lack of suitable RAAF aircraft, a Qantas Constellation and a TAA Convair 240 were chartered. But for smaller airports A65-123 was used. It had the Queen's crest in place of the 86 Wing crest. A23-123 continued in a VIP role (with 34 Squadron) until 1968 when it was transferred to the Navy as N2-123. Kangaroo roundels replaced the RAF roundels in 1956. Part of the RAF's Long-Range Development Unit Flight that flew non-stop from Egypt to Australia. L2638 was LR1, the lead aircraft. The library caption on this photo says it is at RAAF Pearce but by the time the remaining two LRDU aircraft arrived at Pearce L2638 had already been written off. It had suffered an engine failure near Richmond, NSW. Date of this incident is unclear. The damaged L2638 was dismantled and shipped back to the UK from Sydney. C6965 was used in May 1920 for a promotional tour of northern New South Wales and southern Queensland for Perdriau Rudder Co of Brisbane. The pilot was Lt W. Butler. Aerodromes were rare in Australia in 1920 and the BE2e flew from paddocks, racecourses and commons close to the towns visited. Photos of C6965 at known locations such as Toowoomba and St Lucia in Brisbane do not match this photo. C6965 never received a civil registration. Photo from: Powerhouse Museum.

This Airtourer was delivered to the Manning River Aero Club (Taree, NSW) in 1965. It was damaged by a storm in 1982, and withdrawn from service. It was repaired and returned to the register with a 150 hp engine in 1986. It was eventually lost in a crash into the sea near Tangalooma, Queensland, on 29 Dec 1982. Photos of VH-TVC in Ansett-ANA markings are hard to find. Ansett-ANA received three of TAA's Viscount 720s in a lease exchange for two of its DC-6Bs. The exchange was forced on TAA by the government in an attempt to equalise the two fleets. TVC broke up over Sydney's Botany Bay on November 30, 1961 after flying into a storm soon after take-off.

Delivered to a Tasmanian buyer in March 1965. This aircraft was re-engined as some stage with a Lycoming O-320 engine, possibly when it was re-registered as VH-LVW in 1992. In 2013, it resumed the VH-MRJ registration. [#AT107] Photo: Mike Madden
