DHC-3, msn 445, was delivered to Trans Provincial Air Carriers Ltd. in Terrace, BC in Aug. 1964. Changed name to Trans Provincial Airlines after buying two routes from PWA. TPA served forestry, mining, fishing and First National sites on the NW BC coast from bases at the Terrace, the Seal Cove seaplane base in Prince Rupert and Sandspit Airport. In June 1980 it was delivering groceries to an exploration camp on Crescent Inlet, about 55 km S of Sandspit, when the tide started to go out almost grounding the Otter! This inlet is now the northern boundary of the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve.

DHC-3, c/n 21, delivered to Royal Norwegian Air Force in March 1954. To the United Nations Air Transport Force (UNATF) in the Congo as No. 304 in Aug. 1960. Deployed to UN Observation Mission in Yemen in Sep. 1974. Flew Yemen to Canada as N128F in 1964. To G.Rae MacLeod of Aero Leasing, YUL as CF-RNO. To Pacific Western Airlines, YVR in Apr 1968. To Trans Provincial Airlines in YXT in Aug 1968. When PWA added 737s in 1968 it sold its northern svcs to TPA. C-FRNO flew on fixed and amphibious floats on the northwest coast of BC with TPA (1968-93) and Harbour Air (1993-01). To DHC-3T in 2001.

De Havilland Canada kept this 1962 Otter as a demonstrator, initially wearing a yellow and blue color scheme on amphibious floats. A test aircraft and company taxi after DHC-3 production ended, the aircraft was sold to Austin Airways in 1978. It flew with Ignace Airways from December 1980 until it crashed on take off at McKenzie Lake, ON on October 10, 1987. Slowly rebuilt at Kuby's Aircraft at Kenora, it was registered to Slate Falls Airways in 1992. Converted to turbine power over the winter of 2004 / 2005, it's still current with Slate Falls Airways at the time of uploading.

DHC-3 C-FUJM was first seen at YVR in the summer 1978 and had West Coast Air titles by late August. Delivered to the US Army in 1956 as 55-3302. To Europe. Deployed by USAF C-124 to Congo in July 1960 to help rescue US citizens during civil war. To the United Nations Air Transport Force in the Congo as No. 402. Later in Yemen with UN in 1963. To US as N12655, then to Ben Ginter Construction in BC as CF-UJM in 1965. Op. by Trans-Mountain A/S when it crashed on Sep 24, 1971 at Forbidden Plateau on flight from Campbell River to Helen Mackenzie Lake. Stored for about 7 years before repaired.

The last Otter produced and it was delivered in 1967. Here with Sabourin from 1977 until 1996. Converted to Walter turbine in 2002 and exported as N725TH in 2013. It became a common sight flying in the area where I live on Vancouver Island until tragedy struck on 4 September 2022. Soon after take-off from Friday Harbor on Orcas Island/WA it dived out of control into the sea with the loss of all on board. Preliminary evidence indicates failure of the elevator spar. It is seen here at what later became the Viking Outpost mooring.

In September 1968, this former Qantas DHC-3 Otter, CF-XRI, was ferried across the Pacific from Australia to join the fleet of Airwest Airlines in Vancouver, BC. For most of the 1970s, this was the only DHC-3 Otter operating daily scheduled flights into Vancouver Harbour with its distinct engine sound distinguishing it from the more common Cessna 180/185s, DHC-2 Beaver and DHC-6 Twin Otters. AirWest was one of several coastal airlines acquired by the Jim Pattison Group to form AirBC in the early 1980s. C-FXRI now flies as a Vazar DHC-3 Turbo Otter powered by a PT6A turboprop with Osprey Wings.

Converted to a Vazar DHC-3T with PT6 turbine power over the winter of 1999/2000. Seen moored at Watson's Skyways base on Lake Wawa, Ontario close to the town of Wawa beside Highway 101.

Curving in on touchdown, heading home at the end of the day, to the dock at Transwest Air's base in La Ronge, Saskatchewan. Originally delivered new in 1958 to the Union of Burma Air Force, subsequently the Myanmar Air Force.

Officially registered to Tordrillo Mountain Aviation LLC.

In Walsten Air's service, it was fitted with Bristol 7850 floats as used on the Beech 18, and this required the removal of its ventral fin and the fitting of two vertical fins on the horizontal stabiliser to provide greater stability with these larger floats. Earlier in its career it had on two separate occasions broken through ice on landing and become almost totally submerged in the lakes, resulting fortunately in recovery and major rebuild over time. Two months after this photo was taken, it crashed on touchdown at Salvesen Lake, Ontario with the tragic loss of all on board.

Delivered new to Eastern Provincial Airways in 1958 and acquired by Green Airways in 1980. The photo shows it moored at the Green Airways base. It finally got a makeover and new coat of paint over the winter of 1995/96 as here. Current with Clark's Air Service at Cedar Lake, ON in 2022.

Delivered to the RCAF in 1960 and first registered as above in June 1983. Current with Ookpik Aviation at Baker Lake/NU in 2022.

Delivered to the US Army in 1956 and imported in 1974. Here it is in service with Kyro's Albany River Airways. Cancelled on export as N560TR in 2004 and current as such in 2022.

Built in 1960 for the RCAF and registered to Silver Pine Air Service in 1982 as here, still in basic RCAF livery. Later it was painted in a smart red, silver and black color scheme (Photo ID: 288769) and in 2020 it was registered as N443CB, having earlier been converted to Texas Turbine.

Originally delivered to the US Army in 1958 and imported into Canada in 1981. Here it is in operations with Silver Pine Air Service and has a 1000 h.p PZL ASz-62 IR engine in place of the original P&W R-1340. It has since been converted to Walter Turbine and is based at Lac du Bonnet/MB in 2022.
